Blue calcite is often found in a light powdery blue shade, often mixed with white from the limestone deposits it’s found in. It can also be found in medium or darker blues like the oceans, or in aqua hues like the Caribbean Sea. It has a waxy, shiny, smooth texture and is most often opaque. In its raw form, it’s found in large chunks, but can be easily cut, shaped, and polished. It forms in large masses and is commonly found in caves as stalactites and stalagmites.
Its blue color relates to truth, expansion, and freedom. It’s the blue of expression and honesty, and relates to the divine realms of Spirit and the heavens above. Blue calcite helps to bring those higher, divine energies of clear inspiration and positive light down to the Earth’s surface, and into your body and mind.
Composition
A calcium carbonate, the calcium in blue calcite is soothing, pacifying, and strengthening, which lends to the physical and metaphysical effects it has on the body. A carbonate is formed when carbon and oxygen combine with other minerals, and metaphysically, they help regulate growth. Blue calcite’s cooling effect will slow down and stabilize rapid growth or erratic, unstable energies. It also has trace elements of manganese or copper, which create its distinct blue shade.
