The Story of Dioptase
Born within the copper veins of the arid desert, dioptase is a sparkling oasis of loving energy to bring joy to the heart. It opens you to more understanding and forgiveness, for yourself and others, instilling compassion, patience, and ease. A watery stone that works with your emotions, dioptase is soothing for the mind, body, and heart to rejuvenate and refill your inner cup and help you move beyond the past.

Dioptase is a stunning crystal in rich emerald to bluish green. It has a glassy appearance with transparent to translucent hexagonal crystals that allow the light to shine through, giving it a sparkly effect. It often grows on a matrix rock like calcite or barite, and sometimes forms in geodes.
Its intense green coloring signifies growth, prosperity, and health. In Taoist stone medicine, green is associated with the liver. They see dioptase as having the ability to quell the negative emotions that can arise from or create a liver imbalance, such as anger, frustration, and stress.
Composition
Dioptase is a hydrous copper silicate. Hydrous means it contains water. It occurs in veins of copper that’ve been oxidized and weathered, transmuting the metal into something new, which contributes to its metaphysical effects. The water and copper content combined make it a powerful conduit of energy.

Care + Cleansing for Dioptase
An emotionally resonant and highly conductive stone, it’s good to cleanse and recharge dioptase regularly, especially after using it to help you move through any intense emotional states.
You can rinse it under cool running water for a few moments, and then thoroughly dry it with a soft cloth for a quick cleanse. Do not let it sit immersed in water, as it is a relatively soft and fragile stone and can become damaged easily.
You can both cleanse and recharge dioptase by keeping it on a bed of hematite overnight. Or, for a more extensive cleansing, you can bury it in the Earth, or in the soil of a houseplant, and allow it to discharge the energy it has collected and be recharged through the natural frequencies of the Earth.
