Born high on a snowy peak under a new moon, with stars shining brightly and the sky ablaze with neon light, labradorite is a stone that reunites you with your cosmic knowing, activating and enhancing your intuitive gifts, and inspiring you to confidently embrace a life full of wonder and magic.
Born from the stars, a glass formed as the result of meteoric impact upon the Earth, moldavite contains both cosmic and earthly elements combined into a spectacularly special gem. 15 million years ago, a meteor made impact on Earth in what is modern Germany, and it was so immense and intense, it shot meteroic and earthly materials back up so high that they went out of the Earth’s atmosphere, and then rained back down upon the land in what we know of today as the Czech Republic, creating immense “strewn fields” of the meteoric glass. As these shards of fiery meteorite rained down from the sky, they developed their strange, amorphous shapes, and became embedded with the patterns of the Earth where they fell, cooled, and hardened, creating different, distinct shapes depending on the areas where they landed. Moldavite is a green meteoric glass that is often transparent, allowing the light to shine through. It ranges from olive to darker emerald greens, and is amorphous in shape with a wide variety of textures, depending on where it’s from. It can vary from having deep brain-like ridges, to tiny “hedgehog” like spikes, to pieces that look carved out by a tiny spoon, or those that are smoother, like pebbles, containing elongated bubbles within them.
Its green color lends to its energetic qualities of revitalization, renewal, and rebirth. It’s the green force of life and nature itself, from the shoot sprouting up from the ground to the tallest, strongest trees. Moldavite’s green is related to the liver in Taoist stone medicine, which points to its ability to help us cleanse toxicity and parasitic influences from our lives, as the liver does for our bodies, to return us to a state of inner balance.
Composition
A type of tektite, moldavite is formed from a combination of meteoric rock and earthly elements that vaporized and rained back down to earth, where it cooled and turned into a liquid glass. It’s mostly comprised of silicon dioxide with varying amounts of other metal oxides, such as aluminum, potassium, magnesium, calcium, and iron oxides.
Not technically a crystal, as it has no crystal structure and is an amorphous glass, its creation and composition point to its high level of adaptability, as it literally took on its shape from the air it fell through and the ground it landed upon. It reminds us that when life becomes chaotic and ejects you out of the driver’s seat, you have the option to stay adaptable to change and the ability to reshape your life, wherever you may land.
