On May 6, 11:11 AM —

On May 6, 2026, 11:34 AM EST, Pluto stations retrograde at 5º30’ of Aquarius. All planets have been in direct motion since March 20, and Pluto is the first one to shift his direction of motion, slowing down the forward momentum and inviting us on a journey of inner transformation.

The Lord of the Underworld will be retrograde until October 15, offering us an opportunity to bring our focus from the external changes that have been occurring to what is shifting inwardly within ourselves.

Pluto’s shift of motion is particularly significant for people born with planets or angles in Fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius). These individuals are navigating a turning point in their personal transformation and shadow work journeys. They are being asked to release control and attachment to rigid ideas and engage consciously with the changes that are unfolding in their lives.

Pluto in Aquarius: From Old to New Paradigms

Named after the mythological Lord of the Underworld, Pluto allows us to alchemize pain into power and evolve on a Soul level. This planet asks us to make the unconscious conscious and uncover the wounds, traumas, and shadows at the root of our choices and behaviors.

The modern ruler of Scorpio is connected to our true desires, coming from our Soul, as well as to those covert, indirect ways we try to get our security needs met. Collectively, Pluto transits show the direction of humanity’s evolutionary process, highlighting generational cycles and profound transformations in the systems and structures of society. The breakdown of old paradigms fueled by Pluto’s transits allows the emergence of new ones, together with a global shift in consciousness.

Pluto made his final ingress into Aquarius on November 19, 2024, and will remain in the sign of the Water Bearer until 2044. We are still in the early stages of this transit, one meant to revolutionize the way we connect with one another, participate in collective spaces, and relate with technology and science. Pluto in Aquarius is exposing and transforming power dynamics within groups, revealing imbalances in existing systems while encouraging radical innovation in how we collaborate and connect.

This transit is highlighting issues of conformity, belonging, and shared responsibility within groups and social systems, asking us to redefine what it means to be both an individual and an integral part of a community and a society.

Pluto retrograde: Deepening Our Self-Observation

The Lord of the Underworld has been slowing down and has gradually come to a standstill, until being now stationary retrograde. Stationary planets are closer to Earth, and their energy is felt more intensely: for this reason, these days, unconscious, previously repressed psychological and emotional material may come to the surface and demand our attention.

Retrograde planets ask us to direct more of our energy inward and unpack the deeper purpose and meaning of both recent and past events. The deepening of our introspection occurring during retrogrades accelerates our evolutionary process and helps us gain more profound emotional and psychological self-awareness.

When Pluto is retrograde, we have an opportunity to reflect on our relationship to power, change, and evolution. During this time, we have an opportunity to notice how we are being asked to evolve, the nature of the fears that are emerging, the desires and needs we feel ashamed of and hide, as well as how we may resist transformation altogether and avoid necessary endings. This transit asks for a deeper self-observation and invites us to engage with change more consciously.

Pluto retrograde in Aquarius: Inner Transformation

Pluto’s retrograde journey through Aquarius is an opportunity to deepen our inner work, get curious about our resistances and aversions, and explore how Life is asking us to evolve right now. This transit supports a gradual yet profound shift in consciousness: it invites us to revisit the past and recognize its current impact on our psychological and emotional nature.

Old fears, attachments, and control patterns could emerge, and we may recognize how societal narratives and expectations shape our choices and desires from behind the scenes.

This transit is an invitation to transform our visions for the future, to question not only what we are moving toward but why, and ask ourselves where our desires come from, what our true intentions are. It is an opportunity to recognize the deeper impact of our relationship to technology and social media, and of the way we participate in collective movement.

Reclaiming our Agency

While Pluto is retrograde in the sign of the Water Bearer, we have an opportunity to become more aware of underlying patterns and power dynamics within friendships, organizations, and communities. We may recognize the impact of dynamics that are not clean or spoken, that involve control or manipulation for the sake of belonging and fitting in.

The question is not simply whether we are conforming to or rebelling against societal expectations and norms, but whether that response is truly conscious. We are ultimately being asked to take responsibility for how we think, what we share, and how we participate in our communities, and recognize the impact and influence we have on our networks and vice versa.

Pluto’s retrograde journey through Aquarius is an opportunity to reclaim our agency and learn to feel and be part of something bigger and greater than ourselves without identifying with a role or label, and without losing our individuality and uniqueness in the process.

Pluto’s retrograde in Aquarius marks an important milestone within a much larger transformation humanity is moving through together.
