The Lunar Nodes: Our Karmic Patterns & Evolutionary Path

The Lunar Nodes are two opposing points in space that mark the area of the sky where Eclipses happen. They are placed at the intersection of the Moon’s orbit with the Ecliptic, the apparent path of the Sun from our perspective on Earth. The Nodes travel in retrograde motion for most of the time: hence, they move backward through the Zodiac wheel, and they always travel in opposition to each other, on the same degree of opposing signs.

These points have a powerful karmic connotation in both Evolutionary and Vedic Astrology. They are connected with our Soul’s evolutionary path, with the lessons we are meant to learn and master if we want to evolve, with tendencies and shadows we are being asked to leave behind in order to grow.

The South Node of the Moon, also referred to as Ketu, has to do with where we come from, what is familiar to us, what we already know and have mastered. This point informs us of unconscious patterns, attachments, and shadow tendencies that keep us stuck or looping in repetitive cycles. It also reflects gifts and qualities we naturally express, what comes easily to us.

The Lunar North Node, or Rahu, points to our evolutionary direction, to a path that is unfamiliar and uncomfortable. As it directly opposes the South Node, this is an energy we haven’t yet explored and mastered, an energy that asks us to get out of our comfort zone and trust the unknown.

Ultimately, the invitation for us is not to entirely leave the South Node behind, but rather to integrate and harmonize the energy of both Nodes, of both polarities, and recognize how we tend to get out of balance.

The Nodes Leave the Virgo-Pisces axis: From Mastering Healing and Service to Cultivating and Sharing Creativity

After one and a half years activating the Virgo-Pisces axis, the North Node leaves Pisces and enters Aquarius, and the South Node leaves Virgo and enters Leo. The Nodes have been in Virgo and Pisces since January 11, 2025, asking us to deepen our commitment to our spiritual and healing path and recognize the difference between service and sacrifice. During the past eighteen months, we have been challenged to release control, let go of the need to micromanage life, and trust the wisdom and timing of Life.

The South Node in Virgo and the North Node in Pisces asked us to stop overthinking and avoid planning every detail: the past year and a half brought us many opportunities to surrender to what Life or the Divine is asking of us, and taught us that surrendering is not a passive process but requires personal responsibility.

While the North Node was in Pisces and the South Node was in Virgo, we have been asked to create more space for our spiritual practices in our daily lives. We have learned the importance of taking care not only of our physical body, but also of our emotional body, our mental body, and our energetic body. During this time, we had opportunities to redefine our approach to healing and recognize the holistic nature of health.

South Node from Virgo to Leo: Embracing our Genuine Self-Expression

As the South Node moves from Virgo to Leo, tendencies toward self-centredness, an excessive concern with recognition, and a need for external validation come into the spotlight. In Virgo, the South Node emphasized our need for control, over-analysis, and overthinking. In Leo, instead, this placement exacerbates the tendency to identify with one’s image and the desire to receive applause and acknowledgement from others.

The South Node intensifies both the gifts and the shadows of the sign where it is transiting. In Leo, this placement magnifies both our creativity and our need to be recognized for it, inviting us to examine whether our need for validation has overshadowed our desire to express ourselves genuinely and from the heart. This transit will expose our attachment to external applause, personal importance, admiration, and being seen as special by others, offering us opportunities to notice how much of our self-worth and self-esteem are tied to the environment’s reaction to us or other people’s opinions of us.

The South Node’s journey through Leo is a powerful time to reassess and nurture our relationship with creativity and self-expression, to practice sharing our gifts and our light with the world authentically, without worrying about approval or validation.

North Node from Pisces to Aquarius: Developing Awareness of Our Role within the Collective

The transiting North Node points to our collective evolutionary direction, to the path of Soul growth for the upcoming year and a half. While in the Mutable sign of Pisces, the North Node asked us to surrender to something greater than us. In the Fixed Air sign of Aquarius, this placement challenges us to develop objectivity and learn to look at our lives from a bird’s-eye view, from a higher perspective. 

Here, the North Node asks us to strengthen our awareness of the fact that we don’t exist separately from others: we are interdependent, we are an integral part of a greater whole. This transit brings a clear invitation to be active participants in the groups and communities we belong to, to be aware of our role within them, and to make decisions according to everyone’s best interests, not only our own.

For the upcoming eighteen months, the North Node in Aquarius will ask us to share our creativity in service of the collective and of our communities, to put our creativity in service of the greater good and not just ourselves. This transit will ask us to embrace our uniqueness, to accept who we are, to show up as we are, without editing ourselves in order to fit into certain spaces. 

The North Node in Aquarius will also highlight the need to break free of internalized conditioning and social programming that is still impacting us, asking us to move forward in our individuation process, the process of becoming whole, and to integrate all parts of ourselves.

North Node in Aquarius, South Node in Leo: a New Evolutionary Journey

While in Leo, the South Node will increase our desire for romance and passionate experiences. The Aquarius North Node will ask us to develop objectivity, to learn to assess people and situations from a detached perspective, and to observe them longer and more thoroughly before we get emotionally involved. The activation of this axis will challenge us to harmonize the heart and the mind, to discern when it is appropriate to engage with warmth and openness and when to hold back a little, observe patterns, and wait before projecting meaning or expectations on a connection.

The North Node in Aquarius and the South Node in Leo will also ask us to gain awareness of where we are tempted to perform or conform in order to belong, challenging us to show up as we are, nothing more and nothing less. During this time, we will be encouraged to keep in mind that true belonging does not require us to build a false self, and that belonging and authenticity can coexist.

This transit reminds us that each one of us has something valuable and unique to share. We all have the power to make a valuable contribution to the collective, and it is both our right and our sacred responsibility to put our creativity and individuality in service to the greater good, in service of a collective need, in service of a purpose that is socially relevant.

Every evolutionary journey begins with the courage to become more of who we truly are. As the Lion’s Gate Portal approaches, we are invited to honor our unique light, remember that it was never meant to shine for ourselves alone, and offer our gifts to the world with an open heart.
