New Moon in Virgo 2026: the Art of Refinement
On September 6, 11:11 AM —
On September 10, 2026, 11:26 PM EST, a New Moon at 18º25’ of Virgo occurs. This event closes the Eclipse portal, as it is the first New Moon that isn’t an Eclipse since the New Moon Total Solar Eclipse in Leo opened it on August 12. As we begin to integrate all the inner and outer changes brought by the Eclipses, the Virgo New Moon invites us to master the art of refinement and be more deliberate about what we devote our energy to and how we care for ourselves while being of service to others.
The New Moon in Virgo is an especially significant one for people born with planets or angles around the 18º of Mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces). These individuals are being asked to become more intentional about their daily choices and redefine their approach to work, service, health, and healing. They have an opportunity to choose refinement over perfectionism and come into greater alignment with the life they want to create.

New Moon in Virgo: Reorganizing our Inner & Outer Realities
New Moons mark the beginning of a new lunar month: these events occur when the Sun and the Moon meet in the same sign and degree, forming what is technically known as a conjunction, a 0º angle from our perspective on Earth. These are moments of renewal, bringing new beginnings and fresh energy into our lives. Before the momentum grows and we start moving forward again, New Moons offer us an opportunity to plant new seeds, set intentions for the future, and get clear about where we want to direct our energy.
This month, the luminaries meet in the Mutable Earth sign of Virgo. Ruled by Mercury, Virgo is connected with the harvest season and the process of separating the wheat from the chaff. This sign reminds us that we reap what we sow and asks us to learn to discern between what is valuable, useful, and meaningful and what is not. Associated with refinement, discernment, service, and the practical application of knowledge, Virgo teaches us to organize our lives in a way that supports our health and reminds us of the power of the habits and choices we make every day.
This New Moon in the sign begins a lunar cycle centered around simplifying, decluttering, and reorganizing our inner and outer realities. In Virgo, the New Moon is an opportunity to explore new ways of moving through our days and commit to bringing more mindfulness into everyday moments.
New Moon in Virgo: Introducing New Habits and Routines
This New Moon invites us to pay special attention to our routines, habits, environment, and daily choices. It reminds us that small adjustments have meaningful consequences over time, and that change can be gradual and gentle: it doesn’t have to be drastic or happen overnight. The Virgo New Moon is an especially favorable time to set intentions around our routines, introduce new habits, redefine our priorities, and be more intentional about how we invest our time, energy, and attention.
Virgo reminds us that the way we live our daily life is the practice; it is not separate from the inner work we are doing. The way we care for our bodies and environment, relate to our responsibilities, and tend to all the details and tasks of ordinary life are an expression and a reflection of our values, commitments, and inner state.
The upcoming lunar cycle will also be centered around renewing our relationship to work and service, discovering different ways to care for our bodies, and exploring new definitions of health and healing. This is a moment to question the systems and structures that keep us functional and evaluate whether they truly support us. We have an opportunity to learn to be of service in a way that is actually sustainable, knowing that it is only possible when we care for ourselves and others with the same amount of devotion.
Sun and Moon sextile Mars
The Sun and the New Moon in Virgo are forming a sextile to Mars in Cancer. This alignment supports our motivation to take action on our needs and desires, and do so from a place of emotional self-awareness. Mars in Cancer reflects a tendency to protect what matters to us and channel our energy into what provides us nourishment and security. The harmonious sextiles between the Sun, the Moon, and Mars help us notice whether our daily choices and habits support our emotional wellbeing and make adjustments to change them if they don’t.
Mars is also separating from a square to Saturn in Aries. During the past few days, we have been feeling blocked or restricted from moving forward, and this feeling is now slowly dissolving. We are now able to see possibilities and paths we could not see before, and the obstacles we are facing may no longer feel so threatening or frustrating. As Mars separates from Saturn, taking action becomes easier: we can move forward with greater confidence and determination, feeling less inhibited, restricted, and pessimistic about outcomes.
Mercury is part of a Kite Pattern
As the Virgo New Moon occurs, her ruler Mercury is placed at 0º Libra and forming a Kite pattern with all the transpersonal planets: Uranus, stationary retrograde in Gemini, retrograde Pluto in Aquarius, as well as retrograde Neptune in Aries. Mercury is opposing Neptune and trines both Pluto and Uranus, while the transpersonal planets are in a long-term harmonious alignment with each other.
This configuration is creating a bridge between our personal minds and the collective field: our thoughts, insights, and ideas are emerging and unfolding during a time of profound transformation for humanity, a process that extends far beyond us as individuals.
Mercury’s connection to the transpersonal planets opens our minds to the invisible, mystical dimension of life. While the Mercury-Neptune opposition can indicate challenges integrating this wider awareness with the need to take care of our daily tasks and responsibilities, Mercury’s alignments with Pluto and Uranus support breakthroughs in perception and help us access new insights into human nature, psychology, and the future.
Mercury is also quincunx to both Chiron and the North Node at 29º Aquarius. These alignments can highlight the tension between what we currently understand and what we are being asked to learn, bringing to the surface wounds connected to feeling unheard and misunderstood while asking for adjustments in our communication and thinking patterns.
Venus is opposing Chiron, & Several Planets are Activating the 0º
As the New Moon in Virgo occurs, several planets are placed on the 0º of their respective signs. Besides Mercury at 0º Libra, Venus is also at 0º Scorpio, and Chiron is at 0º Taurus. The activation of the 0º degree points to the strong initiatory nature of this lunation, one that is inviting us into a brand new chapter of our lives after the clearing and releases brought by the recent Eclipses.
We are standing at the threshold of something that has not yet taken shape: this is a time to become receptive to what life is asking of us and give space to what is beginning to emerge without forcing any particular outcome or imposing our timing on this process.
The Venus-Chiron opposition in Scorpio and Taurus points to the need to take care of deep wounds that impact our capacity to love, trust, value ourselves, and attach healthily to others. Moreover, both Venus and Chiron are squaring Pluto in Aquarius: the resulting T-square increases both the intensity and the transformative potential of these alignments, offering us chances to gain a new awareness of the patterns that shape how we relate to others, ourselves, as well as money and security.
This configuration is an opportunity to recognize how our past experiences are still influencing our present choices, and find new ways to balance vulnerability and self-protection, merging with others and remaining rooted in ourselves.
New Moon in Virgo: the Art of Refinement
After the intensity of Eclipses, the Virgo New Moon reminds us that transformation doesn’t have to be dramatic: small but consistent changes in our daily habits and choices can have a powerful ripple effect on all areas of our lives.
The shadow of Virgo can manifest as excessive criticism of self and others, overthinking, perfectionism, and the belief that we must fix others or ourselves before we are worthy of love and acceptance. The highest expression of Virgo is all about the art of refinement, more concerned with alignment than perfection. This sign teaches us to honor our humanity without feeling victimized by it or ashamed of it, and embrace the messy side of human experience without getting stuck in it.
Through Virgo, we learn that we can recognize what needs to be improved and refined without making ourselves or others bad or wrong for where we are, and for who we are. This New Moon is an opportunity to tend to the details of our lives with more presence, become more intentional with how we invest our time and energy, and deepen our devotion to creating a life dedicated to service that is supportive of our well-being.
