Neptune is the planet connected with the impulse to transcend the boundaries of the human condition, spiritualize life, and escape the discomfort of form. The modern ruler of Pisces is a transpersonal planet connected with the collective emotional body, mass phenomena, and the dissolution of all forms of separation.

Neptune rules mirrors, dreams, mysticism, altered states of consciousness as well as illusions, escapism, addiction, and spiritual bypass. Because of his transpersonal nature, Neptunian energy is often expressed unconsciously and operates beneath the surface of our awareness.

Neptune blurs the line between self and other, dream and reality, truth and illusion: his energy is subtle, ethereal, and impossible to define or understand through the rational and logical mind. Ultimately, Neptune is connected to universal Truth, to what is True in an absolute sense, as well as to the possibility of redemption.

Neptune in Aries: Aligning Personal and Divine Will

The first sign of the Zodiac Wheel, Aries is all about new beginnings, rebirth, renewal, and instinctual action. Aries represents the raw spark of life, the impulse to emerge from the womb into the world as separate beings. Ruled by Mars, the God of War, Aries teaches us to take unfamiliar paths with courage, to walk alone if necessary, and to take action without overthinking.

On March 30, 2025, Neptune made his first ingress into Aries since 1875. Neptune had been traveling through his domicile, the Mutable Water archetype of Pisces, since 2012. His recent ingress into Aries has brought a massive energetic shift. For the past months, Neptune in Aries has been challenging us to align our personal will with a Higher Will, our personal desires with Life’s desires for us. For the upcoming 13 years, this transit will teach us how to be active participants in the flow of life, how to act from a surrendered place, without attachment to outcome, without using unnecessary force.

Neptune retrograde: Illusions Uncovered

Retrogrades happen when a planet appears to move backward from the point of view of the Earth. Even though these are apparent phenomena linked to an optical illusion, they have a strong symbolic meaning. Retrogrades are an invitation to slow down, reflect, reassess, and redirect, rather than continuing to move forward following the inertia. 

Neptune is now stationary retrograde at 2º of Aries. Stationary planets have come to a standstill right before changing their direction of motion: they are closer to Earth and their energy is more intense. While Neptune’s energy is in the spotlight, we are asked to discern between what is real and what is projection, what is true and what is fantasy, what is divinely inspired and what is simply avoidance.

As Neptune moves retrograde through the heavens, it is said that the veil becomes thinner and Truth is revealed. What was previously clouded by illusion, wishful thinking, or denial may begin to slowly come into focus. Neptune retrograde invites us to confront truths we might have preferred to avoid, and points at where we may have been idealizing, escaping, or spiritually bypassing. This transit is an opportunity to reevaluate our dreams, visions, and the ideals that drive our actions and to reflect on whether we might be chasing illusions or delusions that are leading us further away from our true path.

Reevaluating our Dreams and Realigning with What is True

The upcoming weeks are a time to observe whether we are acting from a place of escapism, fantasy, or unrealistic expectations and take time to strengthen our connection with Truth and with Source before we keep moving forward.

This is not always a comfortable process: however, while disillusionment hurts, it also liberates us. When we are lost in illusion or fantasy we are not free, even if we believe we are: Neptune retrograde offers an opportunity to reconnect with what is True in an absolute sense. Particularly during his final weeks in Pisces, from October 22, 2025, to January 26, 2026, Neptune will ask us to release our attachment to everything that isn’t True, close cycles, and leave illusions behind.

During the upcoming months, we have an opportunity to develop a more intentional relationship with surrender, faith, and devotion, and strengthen our connection to something greater than ourselves. Neptune’s retrograde journey between Aries and Pisces is a call to recognize truths we have been reluctant to see and to align with new dreams from a place of grounded presence and alignment with Truth.

It is also important to consider that Neptune stations retrograde while in a balsamic phase conjunction with Saturn. Saturn will station retrograde too on July 13, and the two planets will travel back to Pisces together. The invitation for us at this time is to deepen our spiritual maturity: this configuration asks for a restructuring of our dreams, ideals, and relationship with spirituality, and offers us an opportunity to discover how to stay grounded in reality yet open to magic.
