On August 8, 06:28 AM —

On August 9, 03:54 AM EST, a Full Moon in Aquarius lights up the night. This lunation, happening at 16º49’ of the sign of the Water Bearer, asks us to observe our lives from a higher and objective perspective and explore the link between personal self-realization and collective contribution.

The Aquarius Full Moon is especially relevant for people born with planets or angles in Fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius). The individuals personally impacted by this Full Moon have an opportunity to experience breakthroughs in their perceptions and explore new ways of honoring and expressing their individuality within their networks and communities.

Full Moon in Aquarius: Serving Humanity through our Creativity

Full Moons mark the peak of the lunar cycle: at this time of the month, the emotional intensity rises and what was previously hidden, unclear, or unconscious is revealed. Leading up to this moment, as we take action on the intentions we set at the New Moon, the momentum builds up for two weeks until we arrive at a release.

Full Moons are a time of culmination and completion, a time to witness the fruits of our efforts and the results of the work we put in. After the Full Moon, as the Moon starts waning, the momentum gradually decreases for the upcoming two weeks, during which we are asked to begin to slow down and turn our focus inward.

On a Full Moon, the Sun and the Moon form a 180º angle technically known as an opposition. Oppositions are aspects of polarization that reflect a tendency to move back and forth between two opposing and complementary energies. This week, the Leo-Aquarius polarity takes center stage: the invitation for us is to explore the tension between being an individual and being part of a collective.

This Full Moon brings the spotlight on the journey of honoring our individuality, our unique expression, and our personal desires while remaining aware of the desires and needs of the groups and communities we belong to. These days, we have an opportunity to explore how to serve humanity through our creativity, and in a way that doesn’t require us to lose touch with our essence or sacrifice, shut down, and repress parts of ourselves.

The Leo-Aquarius Polarity: Personal Self-Realization and Collective Contribution

In the midst of Leo season, the Full Moon rises in the opposite sign of Aquarius. Aquarius is the eleventh sign of the Zodiac, a transpersonal archetype that has to do with issues that go beyond the personal and the subjective. At this stage of evolution in the Zodiac wheel, the separate sense of self we built in the previous ten stages needs to be integrated into the greater field of group consciousness.

While Libra, the previous Air sign, has to do with one-to-one relationships, Aquarius introduces us to larger social networks and communities and to the need to participate in the evolution of humanity by fostering collective progress. Hence, we are no longer the center of our world: we recognize our role as part of an ecosystem and acknowledge that together we are stronger, together we can have a much greater impact.

This Aquarius Full Moon is asking us to shift our focus from personal self-realization, the domain of Leo, to collective contribution, while reminding us that one doesn’t necessarily exclude the other. At this time, we are asked to make sure we are aware of how our actions, intentions, and frequency impact the networks we are connected to, as well as of how, in turn, we are being impacted by our ecosystem.

Full Moon in Aquarius: A Higher Perspective

As the Aquarius Full Moon illuminates the night, we have an opportunity to look at our experiences from a higher, objective viewpoint and recognize what is asking to be released, what is coming to an end. Objectivity belongs to the realms of Aquarius, a sign through which we have the opportunity to rise above our subjective perspectives, personal biases, and immediate desires.

The Aquarius Full Moon reminds us that many things we may believe to be personal are actually not. The invitation for us is to explore what happens when we become the neutral observer of our emotional states instead of identifying with them. Aquarius invites us to see the bigger picture, to zoom out far enough to witness the patterns that are shaping our experiences in an impersonal and detached way.

Detachment is a keyword of Aquarius and it can represent a shadow of this sign as well as a gift. While detaching in an unconscious way can lead us to become cold, emotionally numb, and disconnected from our hearts, detaching in a conscious way can help us reach an objective and deeper understanding of ourselves, the world, and the inner mechanics at the core of the human experience.

Uranus in Gemini rules this Full Moon

Uranus is the modern ruler of Aquarius and of this Full Moon: studying Uranus’ condition helps us access more insights about the energy of this event. Aquarius’ modern ruler recently entered Gemini, inaugurating a new chapter of collective growth and accelerating the pace of change and evolution.

Uranus always invites us to tune into the future, expect the unexpected, and be open to unfamiliar paths. With Uranus traveling through the sign of the Twins, our minds are more energized and we have the opportunity to experience breakthroughs in our thinking. This transit is fueling quantum leaps in awareness and revolutionary changes in how we connect, communicate, share information, learn, and perceive reality.

At the time of this Full Moon, Uranus in Gemini is reminding us of the power of our thoughts, words, and attention, underlining that we impact our networks not only through our actions but also through the frequency we are attuned to.

Uranus is Part of two Kite Patterns

Uranus is part of a Grand Air trine with Mars and Pluto that forms two Kite patterns: one with Saturn and Neptune as the release point, and the other one with Mercury as a release point. The Kite is an aspect configuration that involves four or more planets forming a Grand Trine, two sextiles, and an opposition. The opposition is the aspect that brings the most pressure, and the trines and sextiles help us find creative and productive ways to channel this tension and harness it to evolve.

Mars in Libra is in exact opposition with Saturn and Neptune, both retrograde and conjunct in Aries. Saturn’s activation is particularly significant since Saturn is the ancient ruler of Aquarius. The other opposition is between Mercury in Leo and Pluto in Aquarius, an aspect that offers us the opportunity to become aware of unspoken truths and intellectual power plays. These oppositions are the core of the Kite patterns and illustrate the main challenges we are dealing with.

Mars-Saturn oppositions can feel like hitting a wall: they reflect an incredible tension between our desire to act and the weight of our limitations, between our instinct and our resistance. With Neptune in the mix, clarity may be clouded by illusion, confusion, or disillusionment. Yet, at a deeper level, this configuration invites us to redefine our relationship with effort, responsibility, and force, and to access deeper trust and faith in Life and Divine Timing.

The supportive trines between Mars, Uranus, and Pluto, as well as the sextiles between Uranus, Mercury, Pluto, Saturn, and Neptune, offer us tools to work with this tension creatively. Uranus in Gemini opens our minds to new possibilities and perspectives, while retrograde Pluto in Aquarius supports deep collective and personal transformation, asking us to let go of what isn’t aligned with the future we are trying to build.

The Saturn-Neptune balsamic phase conjunction emphasizes the need to navigate endings well, to be aware of when it’s time to let something go, and to be able to surrender our attachment to the known and stay present and open in the discomfort of uncertainty.
