On October 4, 07:37 AM —

On October 10, 2026, 11:49 AM EST, a New Moon at 17º21’ of Libra inaugurates a new lunar month, one especially focused on discovering new ways of relating and connecting with one another.

We, as a collective, are moving through a period heavily focused on the evolution of relationships, a period centered around creating radically different relating paradigms. A few days after Libra’s ruler Venus began her retrograde journey in Scorpio, this New Moon in the sign of the Scales emphasizes the invitation to profoundly redefine how we love and attach and restructure the patterns and dynamics that shape our connections.

The Libra New Moon is a particularly significant one for those of us born with planets or angles around the 17º of Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn). These people are likely to experience meaningful changes and new beginnings in their social and romantic lives. They are more likely to meet new people who have an unusual, transformative effect on them or enter connections that have the potential to be completely different from what they have experienced so far.

New Moons: Alchemical Moments

Once a month, New Moons remind us that opportunities to begin again periodically arise. As the Sun and the Moon join forces in the skies, meeting on the same degree of the same Zodiac sign, the energy renews itself and new doors open. This Sun-Moon alignment is a 0º angle from our perspective, technically referred to as a conjunction. Symbolically, the meeting of the luminaries is an alchemical moment: the conscious and the unconscious, the masculine and the feminine principles are coming together. As they merge, they are both transformed and create something completely new.

The Moon is still invisible from here: as the darkness invites us inward, we have an opportunity to carefully reflect on the seeds we are planting and the intentions we are setting for this new cycle. This moment is not about quick action or immediate results. As the momentum gradually rises and the Moon becomes visible again, receiving more and more light from the Sun, we will be asked to move in the direction of our intentions and take aligned action.

This month, the luminaries meet in Libra, encouraging us to move beyond old, known relational scripts and explore new definitions of partnerships and new ways of connecting with others. This is an invitation to create new relational paradigms, leave behind people-pleasing, self-abandonment, and imbalanced exchanges, and build relationships rooted in true reciprocity, authenticity, and mutual respect.

New Moon in Libra: the Weighing of the Heart

A Cardinal, Air sign, Libra is connected to the journey of learning to relate to others without losing ourselves, build truly reciprocal and fair relationships, and create harmony and peace within and without. Symbolized by the Scales, Libra represents our ongoing search for balance and harmony, not as something we achieve once and maintain, but rather as a constant journey of attunement and adjustment that requires deep sincerity with both ourselves and others.

The symbol of the Scales evokes the image of the heart being weighed against the feather of Ma’at, deity of truth, balance, and justice. In the ancient Egyptian Book of the Dead, the heart of the deceased was placed on one side of the scale and the feather of Ma’at on the other, to evaluate whether the person had lived in alignment with truth and in harmony with cosmic order. If the heart weighed more than the feather, the deceased was condemned to remain in the underworld.

This story resonates with Venus’s current retrograde through Scorpio, her three squares to Pluto, and her descent into darkness before her reemergence as a Morning Star. We are being asked to feel how we are out of alignment, as well as how the past is still weighing on our hearts. This is an opportunity to examine the resentments, wounds, and fears we unconsciously carry, and release what is keeping us stuck in disharmony and chaos to allow our hearts to become lighter.

New Moon in Libra 2026: The Weighing of the Heart

New Moon opposite Saturn & sextile Jupiter

Opposing Saturn in Aries, the Libra New Moon brings the spotlight on the importance of personal responsibility and emotional maturity, while inviting us to acknowledge the lingering impact of past programming on our present experiences. This opposition asks us to learn to tell the difference between emotional containment, the capacity to hold our emotions and be fully responsible for how we express them, and emotional suppression, which is the negation and repression of our emotions, and can manifest in chronic physical tension.

Saturn’s alignments to the Sun and the Moon emphasize the weight of this New Moon for our personal and relational maturation process. These days, we are being asked to take responsibility for our inner experiences without making ourselves wrong for what we feel, and to recognize that healthy boundaries help us create authentic and reciprocal relationships, they are not walls that separate us from others.

Jupiter in Leo is forming a sextile to the Sun and the Moon in Libra and a trine to Saturn. The Lord of Abundance’s connection to the New Moon reminds us that growth doesn’t happen in isolation. These sextiles highlight the importance of relationships in our process of expansion, emphasizing how deeply we can evolve through contact and exchange with others. The relationships and commitments we begin to establish now can represent supportive structures for our lives for a long time: the people we meet these days can inspire us to take creative risks and open doors to new opportunities.

Retrograde Venus is squaring Mars and Pluto

Venus is the ruler of the Libra New Moon. As we already mentioned, she is currently retrograde in Scorpio, squaring both Mars in Leo and Pluto in Aquarius. Retrograde Venus is asking us to look beneath the obvious, beneath the surface of our relationship and attachment issues, and access the nuclear wounds and fears at the root of them. Unconscious dynamics and unresolved feelings are emerging into our conscious awareness: during the upcoming lunar cycle, we have an opportunity to explore new ways of relating to our and other people’s emotions, desires, needs, and fears.

Venus’s square to Mars exacerbates the friction between our desires and those of others, between our need for connection and our need for autonomy, while highlighting questions surrounding how we pursue what we want and why. Mars in Leo wants recognition, affirmation, and freedom to express and create, while Venus in Scorpio longs for emotional intimacy, depth, and truth. This configuration emphasizes the challenge of honoring both the desire to be seen and appreciated in our light and the longing to be truly known and loved in our vulnerability and our darkness.

Pluto’s activation, squaring Venus and opposing Mars, is exposing the unconscious attachment wounds, fears, and power dynamics that impact how we love and relate. The Venus-Pluto square has been active for roughly a month, challenging us to find out what lies beneath our conscious desires, attractions and repulsions, likes and dislikes. This T-square is bringing us face to face with our relationship to control, vulnerability, jealousy, and possessiveness, asking us to surrender our need for power, domination, and control to open to the transformation that is only possible when we allow ourselves to be vulnerable.

New Moon in Libra: the Evolution of Relationships

Relationships are evolving: a huge shift is happening on a collective scale, which requires us all to change how we participate in relationships and question our assumptions about love, connection, and intimacy. This New Moon in Libra is an invitation to participate consciously in the evolution of relationships and reconsider not only the people we surround ourselves with and allow into our lives, but also how we show up and participate in all our interactions with others.

This is an opportunity to recognize and question the conscious and unconscious relational agreements we have made, notice what we got used to tolerating or excusing, where we tend to abandon ourselves and our boundaries to maintain connection, and where we have confused harmony with avoidance, or compromise with self-sacrifice. We are being asked to create connections where intimacy doesn’t require the loss of autonomy, where compromise doesn’t imply self-betrayal.

This Libra New Moon is a new beginning in how we define and understand relationships and partnerships, and ourselves within them. The old ways don’t work anymore, and our familiar habits and patterns need to be transformed. We are entering a lunar month focused on establishing new ones, while making sure our relationships reflect who we are now, not who we used to be, or who we think we should be.
