Neptune: Living in a Surrendered State
Named after the mythological God of the Ocean, Neptune in Astrology rules the transcendental, mystical, and unseen dimension of life. This planet follows a very different logic than all others, as he works beyond linear time, rational understanding, and daily plans or schedules. Neptune is associated with the human impulse to transcend the limitations and boundaries of physical reality and connect with something greater and higher than ourselves. This planet is connected with the desire to spiritualize life, let go of our separate sense of self, and experience oneness with everything that exists.
Neptune needs roughly 14 years to travel through each Zodiac sign. The purpose of his transits is to, first of all, facilitate the dissolution of identities, ways of being, and attachments that are not true, that are not serving us, that are built on illusions or fantasies. Once what needs to be released has been dismantled and left behind, we are being asked to learn to stay in the void of nothingness, of not knowing, without trying to immediately fill it with another identity, another goal, another ambition, another story, another idea to hold on to. Neptune teaches us to live in a surrendered state, without clinging or controlling, in service to Life, the present moment, and what is True in a universal, absolute sense.
Neptune in Pisces: Releasing the Dream
As Neptune travels through the Zodiac, we have opportunities to uncover the illusions and distortions we believe to be true about each Zodiac sign and establish a more conscious relationship with it.
In his home sign of Pisces, Neptune has been amplifying both the gifts and the shadows of this archetype. During the past 14 years, this transit magnified our sensitivity, our empathy, and our connection with the collective field and the collective emotional body. Throughout this time, we had chances to recognize how everything and everyone is interconnected and how what’s happening in the world touches us personally. The main challenge of these past few years has been discerning between truth and delusion, between projection and reality, between fact and fiction.
On one hand, this transit opened portals of compassion, imagination, creativity, and spirituality, inviting us to let go of rigid boundaries and remember our unity with all that is. On the other hand, it has excessively blurred lines, fostered confusion, and made it easier to escape into illusion, avoidance, or denial. These years have been a collective lesson in surrender, both a dream and a test.
Neptune’s final return to Pisces: Endings Within Endings
Neptune returning to Pisces begins the very final chapter of a journey that started between 2011 and 2012. His final weeks in his home sign offer us a final opportunity to wrap up unfinished business and honor the completion of a cycle that has been unfolding throughout the past 13 years.
On December 10, 2025, Neptune will station direct, while still at 29º of Pisces. Hence, Neptune will remain on the final degree of the entire Zodiac wheel for the remainder of his transit through Pisces. This is another strong indicator of the fact that this is a time to close doors, let go of the old, and make space for the new. We don’t yet see what is coming next, we don’t yet know what life will bring, and it’s important that we don’t rush to fill all empty spaces, that we don’t try to give words to a process that is not yet meant to be understood or explained.
During the upcoming weeks, we will have opportunities to find closure of unresolved issues relative to March 2025, June 2024, and July 2024, when Neptune was traveling on the 29º degree of Pisces. However, when a transpersonal planet like Neptune comes back to the final degree of a sign after entering the next one, the energy is especially potent. What was unresolved comes back into focus, and we are asked to integrate, dissolve, and release the old before the new cycle can fully begin. The 29º of each sign always signals that we are at a turning point, a time of accelerated change and evolution, and in Pisces this is even more the case.
Moreover, Neptune is still in a balsamic phase conjunction with Saturn, also retrograde in the late degrees of Pisces. Until February 20, 2026, when Saturn and Neptune perfect their conjunction at 0º Aries, we will still be in the closing phase of their cycle. This is a massive collective transition and, until then, we are being asked to become comfortable with liminality, have faith in the organic timing of life’s unfolding, and learn to stay present in the space of not knowing, not pushing, and not forcing.
