On September 18, 07:37 AM —

On September 21, 3:43 PM EST, we experience a New Moon partial Solar Eclipse at 28º59’ of Virgo.

We already experienced a New Moon at 0º of Virgo on August 23. The previous lunation, tightly squaring Uranus in Gemini, opened the Eclipse portal and began to revolutionize our reality. This second New Moon and Solar Eclipse in the late degrees of Virgo continues the journey we started a month ago and offers us an opportunity to deepen our understanding of its purpose. We are now standing at the threshold of the unknown, and we are being asked to navigate the tension between order and chaos.

This event is significant for everyone, but particularly for the people born with personal placements in the late degrees of Mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces). These individuals are entering a brand new era of their lives, and any endings they may experience now are clearing the way for new beginnings and unexpected opportunities. For them, this Eclipse can feel especially intense and transformative, and catalyze significant changes in their daily lives.

We invite you to watch our hour long video on our YouTube channel together with Nina where she walks us through the powerful energies of this New Moon Solar Eclipse in Virgo.

Solar Eclipses: Thresholds of the Unknown

Millennia ago, the ancients were tracking the movements of the planets and stars, looking at the heavens to time planting and harvesting, and living according to the cycle of seasons. Solar Eclipses are powerful astronomical events that used to leave our ancestors in awe: as the Sun was getting obscured and the day became dark, they were asked to surrender to forces larger than themselves. As the source of life on Earth, the Sun disappearing was considered to be a bad omen, a sign that the Gods were intervening and demanding attention.

In Astrology, Solar Eclipses are considered to be sacred thresholds to a new reality: these are moments when the veil world is thinner, our destiny is reshaped, and the order of things is being rewritten. These events mark pivotal turning points in both our individual lives and the collective: Solar Eclipses are massive catalysts of change. At this time, we are asked to trust the mystery, surrender control, and step into the unknown.

Solar Eclipse conjunct the South Node: Endings Make Room for Beginnings

Solar Eclipses take place when a New Moon happens in alignment with the Lunar Nodes, the two opposing points in space marking the intersection of the Ecliptic and the Moon’s orbit. Since the alignment between the luminaries and the Nodes is wide, this is a partial Solar Eclipse, which is less intense than a total one, such as the Lunar Eclipse we had two weeks ago.

Lunar Nodes are connected with destiny, karma, and fated changes. The Sun and the Moon are now meeting close to the Lunar South Node: this is the point of the Moon’s orbit associated with past karma, habitual ways of being, familiar patterns, and strong attachments. When Eclipses activate the South Node they require a purge of the old to make space for the new and push us to move toward new paths and directions. Solar Eclipses conjunct the South Node remind us that endings clear the way for renewal and challenge us to let go of deeply ingrained habits, beliefs, and ways of living.

Solar Eclipse in Virgo: Stepping Into A New Reality

The Solar Eclipse in Virgo asks us to continue, refine, and deepen a process we began in late August, with the previous New Moon in the sign. Having two New Moons in Virgo as well as the South Node transiting there underlines the invitation to renew our relationship with this sign and let go of distorted and outdated ways of expressing this energy.

When gravitating toward its shadow and unconscious expression, Virgo is hyper-critical of self and others, obsessed with unattainable ideas of perfection, fixated on order, needs to feel in control at all times, and creates crises to force change. A harsh judge may take the lead, shaming ourselves or others, and a strong inner critical voice could prevent us from creating anything. We can fall into the extremes of hypochondria and obsession with health and routines while paradoxically being disconnected from the true needs of our physical body.

It is easier to gravitate toward these tendencies while the South Node is in Virgo: the Pisces North Node is asking us to move toward the acceptance of the perfection of all there is, exactly as it is in the present moment. The North Node in Pisces asks us to surrender control, have faith in Life’s unfolding, and trust our intuition as our primary guidance system.

This Solar Eclipse in Virgo is asking for a radical reset of our relationship with Virgo energy. It is a powerful opportunity to make drastic changes in our daily habits, in how we take care of our health, in our very definition of health, in how we organize our days and in what we prioritize. It is an invitation to redefine our approach to our daily commitments and work, question how we aspire to be of service, and rethink what service means to us. As the Eclipse happens on the South Node, it underlines the importance of releasing perfectionism and accurately discerning between what we can and cannot control.

Solar Eclipse opposite Saturn and Neptune

The Sun and the Moon in Virgo as well as Mercury in Libra are opposing both retrograde Saturn in Pisces and retrograde Neptune in Aries. The opposition to Saturn can highlight areas where we feel burdened by our responsibilities and commitments and where our efforts don’t seem to provide immediate rewards. This alignment can bring a sobering reality check, asking us to confront the consequences of past choices and reminding us that growth requires discipline, patience, and resilience.

Meanwhile, the opposition to Neptune blurs our boundaries and heightens our sensitivity, creating confusion or disorientation: we may struggle to distinguish reality from illusion and recognize the voice of our intuition amid internal and external chaos. We may find it harder to trust what we see or to feel confident in our decisions and it may be necessary to wait a few days for clarity. While the Sun-Moon-Neptune opposition can highlight tendencies toward escapism, avoidance, or self-deception, it also offers us an opportunity to access peak spiritual experiences, imagination, and creativity.

The Solar Eclipse in Virgo is part of a Kite Configuration

The Sun and the Moon in the late degrees of Virgo are in a wide conjunction with Mercury, the ruler of this Eclipse, in the early degrees of Libra. The Sun, the Moon, and Mercury are forming a Grand Trine with retrograde Uranus in the early degrees of Gemini and retrograde Pluto in the early degrees of Aquarius. The Grand Trine, together with the opposition to Saturn and Neptune, forms a configuration technically known as a Kite.

The Grand Trine helps diffuse the tension of the opposition with Saturn and Neptune and channel that energy in productive ways. The trine to Uranus invites innovation and inspires us to think outside the box: this aspect supports our ability to be flexible and adapt to change, seeing it as an opportunity rather than a threat. The trine to Pluto encourages transformation and inspires deep emotional and psychological self-exploration: during the upcoming lunar cycle, we have an opportunity to understand ourselves better and discover the underlying needs, fears, motives, and desires that drive us.

Both Venus and Mars are Powerfully Aspected

As the New Moon Solar Eclipse in Virgo occurs, Venus in Virgo is separating from a square to retrograde Uranus in Gemini and Mars in the late degrees of Libra is approaching a square to retrograde Pluto in Aquarius. Moreover, Venus is the focal point of a Yod with Pluto and Neptune and Mars is the focal point of a Yod that includes Saturn, Neptune, and Uranus.

Both relationship planets are powerfully aspected on this Eclipse, which increases the probability of experiencing significant changes in our social and romantic connections.

The Venus-Uranus square can intensify the tension between our desire for independence and autonomy and our desire for connection and security. This aspect can inspire us to redefine the way we relate with others, make an income, and invest our money and resources. These days, new encounters can potentially revolutionize our view of life and relationships.

The Mars-Pluto square, going exact on September 24, intensifies the strength of our desires as well as our fear of being destroyed by what we desire. This alignment brings to the surface our hidden drives and motivations, as well as the power struggles that arise when our conscious will collides with external forces or with unconscious fears. Passions, obsessions, and compulsions will intensify, and we are being challenged to channel this intensity consciously rather than get carried away by it.

During this Eclipse, both Mars and Venus are the focal points of aspect patterns technically known as Yods. Yods are aspects of fate and destiny that require us to come to terms with paradox and reconcile seemingly incompatible needs.

This is a clear indicator of the necessity to make drastic changes in how we relate with others, and become aware of how our unconscious patterns are influencing our relationship choices. If we have been feeling chronic tension in our connections or have been stuck in repetitive patterns and cycles, there are good chances that something will shift around this time.
