Uranus: Awakening, Disruption, and Innovation
Also referred to as the Great Awakener, Uranus shakes us out of complacency and offers us an opportunity to liberate ourselves from internal and external restrictions. The modern ruler of Aquarius was named after the mythological sky God, the personification of the heavens, associated with Divine Intelligence and the ability to see reality from a higher vantage point. Uranus also strongly resonates with the figure of Prometheus, who stole fire from the Gods and gifted it to humans. Prometheus is connected with the rebellious side of Uranus as well as his concern for the collective good over personal interests.
Discovered in 1871, completely by accident, Uranus revolutionized our understanding of the Solar System, of the Universe, and of our place in it. The discovery of a new planet represents a new archetype emerging into collective consciousness, and events surrounding it give us information about what this archetype is about.
Uranus’s discovery inaugurated an era of profound collective transformation. 1871 was a decisive year in the American Revolution: shortly after, the Industrial Revolution and the French Revolution occurred too. Freedom, progress, and innovation were in the spotlight in different areas of the world, and humanity went through unprecedented rapid changes that permanently altered their daily lives. This is very much what Uranus is about.
Uranus in Taurus: Redefining Stability and Learning to Feel Secure in Uncertain Times
In Astrology, Uranus’s function is to inspire us to individuate, to break free from the past and from what is obsolete and create new systems and paradigms. Since 2018, the modern ruler of Aquarius has been traveling through the Fixed Earth sign of Taurus. While Uranus is unconventional and future-oriented, Taurus is all about simplicity and the present moment, oriented to securing survival and creating foundations on which life can thrive and blossom. While Taurus is connected to nature, the senses, and the physical body, Uranus is associated with technology, science, and innovation.
These archetypes are very different. In Taurus, Uranus has been challenging us to rebuild a relationship with our physical bodies and the Earth, create new foundations for our lives, and question our existing definitions of abundance and wealth. During the past seven years, this transit has been radically reshaping our relationship with stability, security, and the material world. It has been asking us to question our core values and our ideas about wealth and abundance, and move away from comfort zones that keep us stuck and stagnant.
Redefining stability, strengthening our resilience in the face of the unknown, and learning to feel secure within ourselves in uncertain times are the main themes of this transit. Uranus’s final ingress into the sign of the Bull inaugurates the final phase of this journey, which is likely to coincide with unforeseen changes in the global economy, financial markets, and geopolitical dynamics.
Uranus in Taurus: Approaching the End of a Seven-Year Journey
Uranus stations direct at 27º of Taurus on February 4, 2026. While Uranus is completing his retrograde in Taurus, we have an opportunity to redefine our relationship with security, change, and uncertainty. We have an opportunity to question what is valuable to us compared to what we have been taught to value, what our true priorities are, and what wealth means to us rather than what it means for others.
Uranus enters Gemini for the second time on April 25, 2026, and remains in the sign of the Twins until 2032-2033. Until April, we will be wrapping up this seven-year journey, and what is no longer aligned or sustainable will be revealed. During the upcoming weeks and months, Uranus retrograde in the sign of the Bull asks us to question where we are too attached to comfort zones that are not allowing us to grow, and discern between what provides us true security and what only provides the illusion of it. Uranus’ final retrograde through Taurus is an invitation to explore what freedom, abundance, and sustainability truly mean to us, liberate ourselves from outdated attachments, and discover new ways of relating with the Earth, with our bodies, and with our potential and resources.
