On September 1, 04:55 AM —

On September 1, 04:06 AM EST, Saturn leaves Aries and retrogrades back into Pisces, where he is going to remain until February 13, 2026. We are entering the final phase of Saturn’s transit through the sign, a journey that began on March 7, 2023. The upcoming weeks and months will offer us opportunities to wrap up unfinished business, integrate the lessons learned over the past two and a half years, and close a chapter that has been unfolding since Saturn first entered Pisces.

Saturn returning to Pisces is a particularly relevant event for those of us who were born with personal placements in Mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces), and especially for those with their natal Saturn in Pisces. For them, this shift begins a period of completion of a significant maturation chapter. They are being asked to release outdated patterns and ways of being and prepare to enter a new phase of life with greater wisdom, resilience, and self-mastery.

Saturn’s Transits: Markers of our Maturation Cycles

Named after the Lord of Time and Karma, Saturn has to do with the process of aging, the passing of time, and the journey of learning to trust our inner authority instead of relying on external ones. In Astrology, Saturn’s transits are key markers of our maturation cycles: they are a time we are asked to grow up and face reality as it is, rather than as we would like it to be.

Traditionally ruling both Capricorn and Aquarius, Saturn governs the law of cause and effect and reminds us that every action has a consequence. Saturn teaches us to be patient, to work consistently, to be accountable for the decisions we make, and to take full responsibility for ourselves.

Saturn needs 29.5 years to travel through the entire Zodiac wheel and spends roughly two and a half years in each sign. During these two and a half years, we are being asked to develop a more mature relationship with the sign where he is transiting and grow out of the more unconscious expressions of that archetype.

Saturn from Aries to Pisces: Spiritual and Emotional Growth

On May 24, 2025, Saturn made his first ingress into Aries since 1999. During the past months, this transit has been offering us an opportunity to reflect on our relationship with taking action, going after our desires, and initiating new endeavors.

Saturn in Aries has asked us and will ask us to develop a more mature relationship with conflict, self-assertion, frustration, and anger. It will ask us to deepen our awareness of how we express masculine energy, regardless of our gender, and recognize where we may overcompensate for our insecurities and fears through an excessive use of force, domination, and aggression.

As Saturn returns to Pisces to complete his transit, the invitation for us is to focus on our spiritual and emotional maturation journey and address tendencies that cause us to get lost in spiritual bypassing, escapism, addictive behaviors, and victim mentality.

This is a time to cultivate emotional resilience and spiritual discipline and recognize where we might have been avoiding responsibility, deceiving ourselves, or lacking discernment. Saturn in Pisces is an invitation to acknowledge our limitations, fears, and insecurities with compassion, yet without turning away from discomfort.

Saturn retrograde in Pisces: Closing Chapters and Releasing Illusions

Saturn is now nearing the end of his journey through the Zodiac wheel. His final months in Pisces represent the completion of a long cycle, the closing of a chapter, the end of an era. This is a time to release any illusions we are still holding about ourselves or the world and dare to face reality as it is in the present moment with faith and acceptance.

Saturn returning to Pisces is an opportunity for us to review the journey we have gone through in the past months and years, wrap up unfinished business, and take time to digest the lessons we learned before moving forward. As Saturn completes his journey through the Zodiac wheel, we have an opportunity to reflect on what has taken place in the first few months of 2025, and how the events that occurred and have been unfolding are offering us opportunities to step up to a new level of maturity and responsibility.

In Pisces, a sign that has to do with the dissolution of all boundaries and of our separate sense of self, Saturn challenges us to find structure within fluidity, to build inner strength in the face of uncertainty, and to surrender to the flow without giving up responsibility. During this time, we are being asked to be compassionate without enabling distortions or becoming codependent, we are learning how to stay open without collapsing.

Saturn won’t return to Pisces until 2052: we now have an opportunity to integrate the changes that took place in the past months and years and reflect on what we may still be avoiding, and where our boundaries may need to be adjusted.

The Saturn-Neptune Balsamic Phase Conjunction

For the entire year, Saturn has been traveling together with Neptune, Pisces’ modern ruler. Saturn and Neptune are both retrograde and still in a balsamic phase conjunction: they are completing their synodic cycle, a journey that started in 1989. Until they perfect their conjunction in February 2026, we are in a time of transition and closure. We are being asked to allow structures that no longer serve us to fade away, to release our need for control, and to learn to stay present in the space of not knowing.

On October 22, Neptune will retrograde into Pisces too, magnifying the prominence of the sign and adding a strong liminal quality to the final months of the calendar year. Together, Saturn and Neptune’s retrograde journey through Pisces will ask us to stand at the threshold between endings and beginnings, surrender to the mystery without rushing for certainty, and trust that what is dissolving is creating the space for something new, that is yet to be born.
