2021 will be a future-oriented year: during the upcoming months, we will be encouraged to reflect upon the past and to decide what to keep and what to let go of. Liberation and deconditioning will be key themes of the year that has just started. January, in particular, will be a month of acceleration and fast change. We will have the chance to become aware of where we are still holding ourselves back from embodying our uniqueness. We will be invited to reflect upon and break free from what is preventing us from living authentically and sharing our truth.
Throughout the entire 2021, especially during January and February, we will have a lot of emphasis on the archetype of Aquarius. During this time, all of us will be encouraged to embody the higher expression of this sign. Aquarius teaches us to experiment without being afraid of making mistakes, to connect with like minds and learn from each other, to embrace the future with a sense of curiosity, and to release the unnecessary expectations and judgments we place on both ourselves and others.
Let’s have a closer look at the main planetary events we will experience throughout the upcoming month.
Mars enters Taurus
Jan 6, 2021, 05:27 PM ET
Mars concludes its long six-month transit through its home sign Aries and finally enters Taurus. The shift from Cardinal Fire to Fixed Earth is inviting us to keep working toward our goals and to consolidate the projects we started. Mars in Taurus is slow and steady, and it’s an energy that facilitates continuous and sustained effort. This transit will support all those long-term endeavors that require constant commitment and dedication. During the six weeks journey of Mars through Taurus, our focus becomes more internalized, and we naturally invest more attention towards our relationship with ourselves and our physical body, while we reflect on the nature of our needs, our desires, and our values, and try to become more self-reliant.
Mercury enters Aquarius & Venus enters Capricorn
Jan 8, 2021, 07:00 AM ET & Jan 8, 2021, 10:41 AM ET
On the same day, two planets are changing signs within a few hours one from the other. Mercury joins Jupiter and Saturn in Aquarius, while Venus joins the Sun and Pluto in Capricorn. Mercury in Aquarius creates a bridge between our individual minds and the Hive mind: our thought processes will be more focused on the big picture and the collective needs, while our capacity for creative thinking will be maximized, potentially leading to groundbreaking ideas, important discoveries, and significant innovation.
On the other hand, Venus in Capricorn will highlight our need for stability and security. The influence of Venus will play out in both the financial arena and in our love and social life. Venus in Capricorn desires commitment and stability, loves to know what to expect. While this may be at odds with the Aquarian energy available, Venus in Capricorn will help us ground and will inspire us to make something tangible and concrete out of the insights and visions that pop up in our minds.
New Moon in Capricorn conjunct Pluto; Mars square Saturn
Jan 13, 2021, 00:00 AM ET
On January 13, the Sun and the Moon join forces in Capricorn and they meet Pluto: this New Moon is happening on the same degree where the Saturn-Pluto conjunction took place, exactly one year ago. This cosmic event may bring up themes that first emerged at the beginning of 2020, and highlight similar issues. The New Moon in Capricorn conjunct Pluto puts the spotlight on how we unconsciously try to generate security in our lives and reminds us of the importance of aligning our inner and outer reality, by building structures that honor the changes that have been taking place in our inner world.
Meanwhile, we witness the last Mars-Saturn square of a cycle of three, that started back in August 2020 and, until now, involved the signs of Aries and Capricorn. This planetary configuration is quite tense, we are encouraged to find healthy ways to channel and express the energies of frustration and anger. The invitation is to avoid repressing difficult feelings and accept the inevitability of the limitations we can’t yet overcome.
Uranus stations Direct in Taurus
Jan 14, 2021, 03:36 AM ET
Uranus has been in retrograde motion since August 2020: as the planet of revolution begins moving forward again, we will experience two weeks during which all celestial bodies are direct. During the upcoming days, we are likely to notice a general sense of acceleration: Uranus is stationing in a square aspect to Jupiter and it is soon going to conjunct Mars. Even though their alignments will be exact only in a few days, we will feel their influence earlier.
These aspects may bring up themes related to the ongoing square between Saturn in Aquarius and Uranus in Taurus, lasting for the entire 2021, and emphasize the conflict between the old system and the new paradigm. Uranus stationing direct in Taurus may reflect surprising events affecting the global economy, personal financial matters, and important changes in our value system. This transit invites us to embrace the future without holding back to the past, to be unconventional, and to connect with a sense of inner stability and security
Aquarius Season begins
Jan 19, 2021, 03:40 AM ET
The Sun joins Jupiter, Saturn, and Mercury and the emphasis on the archetype of Aquarius increases even more. During Aquarius season, we will have five planets transiting the sign of the Water Bearer. The Sun will highlight the necessity to discover and express our uniqueness: Aquarius season will invite us to break free from social and parental conditioning, self-imposed limitations, and fear of other people’s judgment. During the Sun’s journey through Aquarius, we may feel drawn to reflect upon the past and decide what to preserve and what to leave behind. We will notice a strong desire to connect with like-minded Souls who recognize and honor our talents and our vision, to be part of a community that honors and celebrates our individuality and represents a safe space to express it.
Mars conjunct Uranus in Taurus
Jan 20, 2021, 3:37 PM ET
The conjunction between Mars and Uranus, active for the entire week, invites us to find our own, unique way to express all those functions related to Mars, such as instinct, assertion, sexuality, physicality, getting things done. Their alignment encourages us to reflect upon our desires and question them. Are they authentic or another byproduct of our conditioning?
This configuration can bring major breakdowns and breakthroughs and may reflect sudden and unexpected changes. However, Mars-Uranus contacts also represent extremely electric and impulsive energy that can easily get out of control: during these days, we need to be extra mindful of our reactions.
Full Moon in Leo; Venus conjunct Pluto in Capricorn
Jan 28, 2021, 02:16 PM ET
The Full Moon in Leo represents another intense cosmic event: as the Sun-Moon opposition is taking place, Venus is exactly conjunct Pluto in Capricorn, while Neptune in Pisces is in an exact square aspect to the Lunar Nodes. Dynamics of manipulation, power, and control can be uncovered and exposed.
We may find out that what we believed to be true was false, and experience a sense of disillusionment and confusion. Nonetheless, the Full Moon in the sign of Leo will encourage us to come back to our creative essence, to cultivate our unique talents, and develop our personal voice. This cosmic event will help us transmute the intense emotional energy in a cathartic way and remove more of the layers that hold us back from authentic self-expression.
Mercury stations Retrograde in Aquarius
Jan 30, 2021, 10:51 AM ET
At the very end of the month, we experience the first Mercury retrograde of 2021. Mercury retrograde is happening in an Air sign for the first time since 2016 and will increase the pressure on the archetype of the Water Bearer. Mercury retrograde in Aquarius will invite us to reflect, review, reassess, redefine, and reexamine all the events that took place during the month that is coming to a head.
This cycle, lasting until February 20, encourages us to go inward and revisit our habitual thinking patterns and communication habits. Mercury retrograde in Aquarius represents an invitation to question the way we have been conditioned to perceive reality, and to let go of ideas and ideologies that don’t reflect our personal truth.
